Important Billing Changes
Throughout 2013, Carle is transitioning many of its physician clinics to outpatient departments of the hospital. This will change the current billing process for these services to Provider Based Billing. These services were previously Carle Physician Group clinic services.
Effective June 1, 2013, the following services on the main campus in Urbana will become outpatient departments of the hospital:
- All Carle physician offices located in North and South clinics on the Urbana main campus (except Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, located on North Clinic 1)
- South Clinic Laboratory
- Cardiology services in Center Building
- Maternal Fetal Medicine and Maternal Fetal Sonography in the Center Building
- Digestive Health Center located on North Tower 1
- Expanding Children's Hearing Opportunities Program (ECHO)
This will change the way you are billed for services when you receive care at these locations. Specifically, you will receive a bill for any services performed by your physician, and a separate bill from the hospital for facility services. Depending on your insurance, there may be an additional co-pay or coinsurance (one for the physician and one for the hospital) for one visit. If you have secondary coverage, any additional co-insurance and deductible may be covered by your secondary insurance. This billing model, called Provider Based, complies with specific Medicare regulations and is a national model of practice for integrated healthcare delivery systems such as Carle.
