Recognizing donor generosity
The Carle Development Foundation has established giving clubs to honor those who make a gift to Carle. Gifts may be unrestricted, benefiting Carle’s greatest need at the time, or restricted to a particular area. Members of these giving clubs often serve as inspiration to others; however, we also understand that anonymity may be preferred. The reporting year for Carle’s giving clubs is January 1 to December 31.

DONOR SPOTLIGHT: Patterson Companies
There are about four breast cancer survivors among the 250 employees at Patterson Companies in Champaign. So, when the employees were asked to select a charity to support, it was an easy decision.
"We wanted something local with a personal connection," shares Kim McQueen, marketing manager for Patterson Companies. "We selected Mills Breast Cancer Institute."
Grins for a Good Cause is an annual corporate initiative that was launched in 2010. That first year, the local office raised more than $4,000. "We were proud of what we accomplished but we knew we could do better," McQueen admits, so the planning committee sought feedback from the entire Champaign facility - from production and distribution, to sales and administration.
For the 2011 campaign, the committee hosted fun and easy events to raise money, including a drive-through chicken dinner, a jean and jacket sale and internal "flamingo flockings" of offices and cubicles.
"The more the employees saw the total grow, the more excited they became," McQueen says. "Our goal was to exceed what we raised in 2010, and we more than doubled it."
By the time the campaign ended in October - Breast Cancer Awareness Month - the local Patterson employees had raised $11,500 for research at Mills Breast Cancer Institute. Their efforts secured Patterson Companies a membership in The Business Circle, an exclusive club that applauds corporate philanthropy in support of Carle's mission. |
Women’s Legacy Circle
Celebrating their ability to get things done
The Women’s Legacy Circle combines the resources and talents of local women to support emerging healthcare needs by funding extraordinary services at Carle or through Carle’s community partners. Members pool their charitable dollars, identify needs through a grant process and distribute funds according to the wishes of the entire Circle.
This grass-roots effort involves concerned women who want to make a difference and change lives. The Women’s Legacy Circle inspires, educates and empowers women to pool their charitable gifts to improve the health of their community. It also offers women a unique opportunity to combine their resources to fund and direct the expansion of extraordinary healthcare services at Carle.
Members of the Women’s Legacy Circle commit as little or as much time as they want. Annually, the circle meets three times to identify needs, collect funds, consider opportunities and channel resources to the need. If preferred, members can simply dedicate financial resources and cast their vote for how resources are used.
An annual gift of $500 designated to the Women’s Legacy Circle provides the investment needed to make a meaningful difference. The Women’s Legacy Circle is a program developed by the Women & Philanthropy initiative of The Carle Development Foundation.
To learn more about this unique initiative, please contact The Carle Development Foundation at (217) 383-3021 or send an email to development@carle.com.

Margaret Carle Morris Society
Investing in a healthier tomorrow
The Margaret Carle Morris Society is a group of people who are committed to making a difference by ensuring Carle’s future. Through their decision to make a future gift to Carle, these individuals have confirmed their commitment to being part of a longstanding tradition of giving that keeps Carle strong.
A commitment to make a future gift can be made in many ways. Examples include making a charitable bequest under a will, giving property to Carle or setting up a charitable remainder trust or charitable gift annuity. Donors can even specify how they want their gift allocated.
Members share in the joy of knowing that they are making a significant impact by enhancing Carle’s facilities and programs in medical care, education and research. We honor these gifts to Carle by listing Margaret Carle Morris Society member names on special plaques on our donor wall and by offering special updates and invitations to society members.

DONOR SPOTLIGHT: The neitzel family
Craig and Leslie Neitzel talk regularly to their children about philanthropy - not only in terms of monetary donation but also in terms of donations of time and effort.
"We hope to impress upon our children grace, selflessness and compassion towards others," Leslie explains. "Our lives are very blessed, and we are fortunate enough to be able to share our good fortune with others."
Because Craig is a physician with the Carle Physician Group, Carle seemed to be a natural choice for their philanthropic support.
"Being able to make a difference is important to us," Craig explains. "It's comforting to know that the dollars we give are going to improve patient care, provide support and education to patients and their families and provide services to those who can't afford them."
Over the past five years, the Neitzel's generosity has supported several different programs including Mills Breast Cancer Institute, palliative care, cardiac treatment and research, and charity care.
This past year, the Neitzels looked to the future when it came time to make their charitable gift. They created a charitable gift annuity and became members of the Margaret Carle Morris Society. Membership in this legacy program is reserved for those who have confirmed a gift to Carle through their estate plan.
