Three important steps before surgery

Bariatric surgery is an important decision to make – and Carle can help. Here’s a checklist of recommend steps to take when considering surgery:

  1. Attend a free informational seminar. Seminars are free and open to all. Each seminar provides potential patients with details about weight loss surgery and the Carle Bariatrics program. One of our surgeons will describe the surgical procedures, the medical effects of untreated obesity and the lifestyle changes that accompany weight loss surgery. Attendees are encouraged to ask questions in this welcoming, educational environment. We look forward to meeting you! Registration is required. Call (217) 326-0180 or visit carle.org/bariatricevent.
  2. Schedule an appointment with a Carle bariatric surgeon. It is important that you contact our office to meet with our physicians and start the journey to your weight loss surgery. A bariatrics staff member will ensure you receive a patient welcome packet which includes information required by Carle Bariatrics and your insurance carrier. To schedule an appointment, call (217) 383-4149.

  3. Verify your insurance requirements. Although a staff member will review and verify your insurance carrier’s requirements when you schedule your first appointment, it is important you are aware of such requirements beforehand. Please see Insurance and Financing for more information.
