Support Services
Support services at Mills Breast Cancer Institute will be with you each step of the way. You have access to many helpful resources throughout diagnosis and treatment, including nurse navigators, genetic counselors, certified bra fitters, social workers and more.
- Social workers – Our licensed clinical oncology social workers provide counseling and support for patients and family members throughout the cancer journey, connecting patients with community resources and financial assistance they may need, serving as patient advocates and assisting with care planning.
- Nurse navigators – These registered nurses can assist with coordinating appointments with care team, communicating patient needs and concerns to physicians, answering questions regarding test results, side effects and treatment options and individualized education and support.
- Patient advocates – Patient advocates are cancer survivors or family members who volunteer their time to support patients with cancer and bring patient issue to the forefront of research. They educate communities about clinical trials through support groups and educational symposiums.
- Nutrition counseling – A registered dietitian recommends nutritional options to enhance patients’ health and counteract negative side effects of chemotherapy and radiation treatment.
- Genetic counseling – A licensed genetic counselor assesses the risk of those with family history of cancer and helps make decisions about screenings, preventive treatments or surgeries.
- Lymphadema services – Lymphadema can be a side effect of cancer treatment. Lymphadema treatment services are provided by Carle Therapy Services and are available by physician referral.
- Arabella Boutique – Arabella Boutique is a specialty store that offers therapeutic products such as soothing lotions and compression garments, a variety of wigs and prosthetics as well as fashion accessories including hats, scarves, jewelry and pajamas. Staff includes certified bra fitters.
