Carle Foundation Hospital receives new quality-based accreditation from DNV Healthcare

7/12/2012
Carle Foundation Hospital today announced that it has achieved national accreditation from Det Norske Veritas (DNV) Healthcare, Inc., as part of its ongoing pursuit of excellence in patient care and service. In addition to hospital accreditation, Carle has also achieved Primary Stroke Center Certification through DNV Healthcare, illustrating that Carle continues providing high quality stroke treatment.

DNV Healthcare is the newest and first Medicare-approved hospital accreditation program that focuses on the federally-required Medicare Conditions of Participation while integrating ISO 9001, which is the universally-accepted international standard for a quality management system.

“Carle is pleased to partner with DNV on this new accreditation process,” said John Snyder, Executive Vice President and COO, The Carle Foundation. “The change will give our organization more continuous input into improving our services. It reflects Carle’s ongoing efforts to provide a higher quality care and more value to our patients and their families.”

DNV hospital accreditation addresses the demands of quality-driven hospitals that are dedicated to patient-centered care. As part of the accreditation process, DNV surveyors track the care of patients across various departments and facilities. DNV surveyors will visit Carle on regular annual intervals to help ensure a level of constant readiness and monitor the hospital’s progress on specific accreditation requirements. With this successful completion of the DNV accreditation process, Carle’s current accreditation cycle with the Joint Commission will end.

“Our approach to accreditation acknowledges that every hospital is different, its needs and challenges are unique to the community it serves,” said Patrick Horine, Sr. VP of Accreditation for DNV Healthcare. “We hold hospitals accountable to very high standards, but we also empower them to innovate.”

Accreditation was achieved through participation in DNV Healthcare’s National Integrated Accreditation for Healthcare Organizations (NIAHO) hospital accreditation program. This program was approved by the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicare Services on September 26, 2008 and is being embraced by hospitals across the country.
