In addition, Park Street will be closed from July 29-December 2011 during this phase of construction on Carle’s hospital addition.
As a reminder, Busey and Coler, north of Park, are permanently closed to make way for the new facility. Carle’s emergency room is best accessed from University Avenue.
Carle is building an addition that will house the Heart and Vascular Institute. The nine-story, 390,000 square-foot patient bed tower will enhance cardiovascular, neurosciences and intensive care. This will allow Carle to better address emergent, acute and chronic conditions. The new facility will include 136 single patient rooms to replace inadequate rooms from buildings constructed in the 1960s and 1970s. The building is scheduled to be completed and occupied in 2013.
