Carle expanding access, resources for Sleep Medicine in McLean County
One Bloomington-Normal healthcare facility has joined Carle Health to expand access to Sleep Medicine to those in and around McLean County.

Midwest Center for Sleep Medicine (MCSM), a long established center of excellence for sleep medicine serving the McLean County area, has joined Carle Health to provide better accessibility to sleep medicine for those in McLean County and beyond. Carle is proud to continue to provide the most comprehensive sleep services across the region.

The sleep center is a division of the Carle Neurosciences Institute.

“We are so excited to have officially joined the Carle Health family,” George Haake, manager, sleep center said. “Our patients will receive the gold-standard of care they’ve always received, but will now have an easy transition of care to the entire network of resources available through Carle.”

A long standing provider of Sleep Medicine services to the community, MSCM opened on Jumer Drive in 2003 as a joint venture between BroMenn Healthcare, Carle Clinic Bloomington-Normal and Illinois Heart and Lung Associates.

Studies show that 50-70 million adults in the United States have a sleep disorder with 48% reporting snoring. 37.9% reported unintentionally falling asleep during the day at least once in the preceding month and 4.7% reported nodding off or falling asleep while driving at least once in the preceding month.

The sleep center specializes in the comprehensive testing and treatment of sleep disorders in adults and children. State-of-the-art equipment monitors brain wave activity, respiratory parameters, body movements, heart rate and rhythm, and oxygen levels in blood.

This is a definite win for our patients.”

MCSM brings a team of expert support staff and recognition of quality to Carle Health, with full accreditation as a Sleep Disorders Center by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.

The services of the sleep lab are scheduled to move to Carle Bloomington on Eastland by June 1.

“Because so many sleep disorders go undiagnosed, our hope is that more patients will take their first step to seeking treatment,” Koh said. “With MCSM joining Carle, it means that there are more resources at a patient’s disposal to sleep better and live a healthier life.”
