Know the 5 Sudden Symptoms of Stroke
Each year about 700,000 people suffer a stroke in the United States. Nearly one in five stroke victims dies, making stroke the third leading cause of death.
At Carle Foundation Hospital, we're focused on reducing those numbers and we want to make sure you're prepared if you or someone you know should experience any of the following five sudden symptoms of stroke:
- Sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arm or leg (especially on one side of the body)
- Sudden confusion, trouble speaking or understanding speech
- Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes
- Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination
- Sudden severe headache with no known cause
Call 9-1-1 immediately if you or someone you know experiences any of these symptoms - acting quickly could diminish the effects of stroke.
