Carle Foundation Hospital Announces 2008 Medical Staff Recognition Award Winners

Carle Foundation Hospital recognized the following physicians for their outstanding achievements at its recent Medical Staff Recognition Awards. These 2008 award winners were nominated by peers and chosen by a committee of past recipients for their relentless effort in delivering exceptional medical care.
Uretz Oliphant, MD, of Champaign - who specializes in trauma surgery, critical care medicine, general/laparoscopic surgery and bariatric surgery - was honored as Physician of the Year. The award is given to a physician who has exceeded the expectations of his practice or profession, or who has made a difference in the life of a patient, staff member or colleague.
Dr. Oliphant joined Carle Clinic Association in 1992. He earned his medical degree from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, followed by a fellowship in trauma/critical care from the University of Illinois at Chicago. He is the chief of trauma at Carle Foundation Hospital, and the chief of surgery for the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Urbana-Champaign.
Curtis Krock, MD, of Champaign, was honored with the Educator of the Year Award. The award is given to a physician who has formally and informally contributed to spreading knowledge to any health care professional.
Dr. Krock's dedication to medical education dates back more than three decades. He joined Carle Clinic Association in 1972 where he began working in educational roles within Carle Foundation Hospital (including residency site director for three years) and at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Urbana-Champaign.
Dr. Krock retired from practice in July 2001. He has served as interim chief of medicine at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Urbana-Champaign for the past two-and-a-half years.
