Windsor of Savoy Retirement Community Marks its 20-Year Anniversary

December 30, 2008

The Windsor of Savoy, one of the area's first retirement communities, celebrated its twentieth anniversary in December.

Built in 1988, the Windsor sits on 12 manicured acres of land at 401 Burwash Avenue in Savoy. The community was originally conceived as an independent living center, and in 1998 an assisted living extension, Windsor Court, was added. The Windsor of Savoy, owned and operated by The Carle Foundation, now offers 138 independent living apartments and 36 assisted living apartments.

The facility has grown not only in size but also in terms of the range of amenities it offers residents. A $1 million renovation, completed in 2007, expanded the dining room and doubled the size of the multi-purpose Savoy Room, as well as adding a new library, beauty shop, coffee area, and expanded fitness center.

Two of the Windsor's administrators have been at the facility since it first opened. Dick Harris, Marketing Director, and Roger Bowen, Manager of Facility Operations, were both recognized for their two decades of service, and the key roles they have played in the Windsor's continued success.
