The Carle Foundation
The Carle Foundation, based in Urbana, IL, is the not-for-profit parent company of a variety of health care entities. These include:
- Carle Foundation Hospital
- Carle Foundation Physicians—Mattoon/Charleston
- A multi-county home care service providing hospice and home infusion services (Carle Home Services)
- An air and ground emergency transportation system (Carle Arrow Ambulance and AirLife medical helicopter)
- An independent living and assisted living retirement community (The Windsor of Savoy and Windsor Court)
- Retail pharmacies (Carle RxExpress)
- Durable medical equipment retail businesses (Carle Medical Supply)
- Several therapy services locations (Carle Therapy Services)
- Two free-standing ambulatory surgery centers with recovery centers (Carle SurgiCenter—Champaign and Carle SurgiCenter—Danville)
Among the corporate entities is Carle Foundation Physician Services, the physician management arm, and the Carle Development Foundation, a not-for-profit charitable organization operated by The Carle Foundation through which donations can be made. (Because of the name of our parent company, many mistakenly assume it is a fund-raising organization.)
Carle Foundation Hospital
Carle Foundation Hospital, a 305-bed facility, serves as the regional medical center for individuals residing in east central Illinois and west central Indiana. It is home to some of the brightest, most talented medical professionals using some of the most sophisticated medical technology available in the region.
The Hospital offers a higher level of clinical service and technology than any area hospital, and serves as the area's only state-designated Level I Trauma Center and the Co-Perinatal Center with Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The Hospital offers a full range of inpatient and outpatient diagnostic and therapeutic services for medical, surgical, pediatric, neonatal, obstetric and gynecological patients.
Carle Foundation Hospital provides various ancillary support services to both inpatients and outpatients, including emergency services; respiratory, occupational, speech and physical therapies; telemedicine; and surgery.
With more than 25 departments including surgical, cardiovascular and neonatal ICUs, Carle Foundation Hospital joins with the Carle Physician Group to provide services through the Carle Heart and Vascular Institute and Carle Cancer Center. The Hospital is affiliated with the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Urbana-Champaign as its primary teaching hospital.
Carle Foundation Hospital has an open medical staff. However, the majority of the members are affiliated with the Carle Clinic Association.
Carle Foundation Physicians—Mattoon/Charleston is a physician group practice, owned and operated by Carle Foundation Physician Services. (To simplify our consumer communications, we simply say that this Clinic is owned by The Carle Foundation.) Carle Foundation Physicians—Mattoon/Charleston operates as a not-for-profit.
Carle Physician Group
Carle Physician Group, one of the largest physician groups in the United States, is comprised of more than 300 physicians practicing in more than 50 specialties and subspecialties.
Through a network of nine regional clinics, a variety of outpatient services, and residency programs, Carle Physician Group physicians can meet health care needs throughout east central Illinois. Carle Physician Group's main clinic is in Urbana. Branch clinics are conveniently located in the following central Illinois communities: Mahomet, Champaign on Kirby, Champaign on Mattis, Danville, Monticello, Rantoul, Southeast Urbana, and Tuscola.
Health Alliance Medical Plans, Inc.
Health Alliance Medical Plans, Inc., a health maintenance organization. The Hospital and other Foundation providers, like other health care providers, have agreements to provide services to Health Alliance Medical Plan enrollees.
