The second edition of our Nursing Annual Report is full of accomplishments that are only possible in an organization that values shared governance and realizes the benefits of an empowered patient care staff. The pages within reflect our successes as we continue on our Magnet journey.
Fiscal year 2008 (July 2007-July 2008) was the year of many successes, changes and great planning, including:
- Implementing Electronic Medical Records (EMR), including clinical documentation, bar coding for medication administration and computerized provider order entry.
- Hiring 89 new nurses in less than five months. This accomplishment speaks volumes about the reputation of Carle nursing.
- Helping plan for the Campus Modernization Project, which includes 120 replacement beds. We look forward to providing our patients with additional private rooms and to practicing in a state-of-the-art environment.
- Continuing the use of common practices in Carle Foundation Hospital Nursing such as hourly rounding, SBAR and bedside report.
- Honoring 23 Nurse Exemplars. One of the physicians who attended the ceremony expressed how proud she was to work here because of the professional nursing staff.
As we continue our Magnet journey and strive to continuously better our patient care, one thing is for sure, fiscal year 2009 promises to be an exciting year!
