Advance Directives
Make your healthcare wishes known through advance directives
Carle Foundation Hospital encourages patients to convey their wishes concerning future health care if they become unable to speak for themselves – through advance directives – and for providers and facilities to honor those wishes.
Most people don’t think about making advance directives before it is too late. At that point, a healthcare surrogate may be chosen for you based on Illinois guidelines. In that case, you run the risk of having a surrogate whom you may not wish to make your healthcare decisions.
Take a moment today to learn – and follow-through – on what you can do to protect yourself.
It’s a difficult topic. No one wants to think about having a life-altering accident or illness, but the reality is that accidents and illnesses do happen. We should all prepare for them the best we can.
