Comprehensive, collaborative hearing care

The compassionate team at Carle's ECHO program offers comprehensive services for children with hearing loss. We're the only program in Illinois to offer these services in a single location. With one dedicated facility for children's hearing care, our ear, nose and throat specialists, audiologists, speech and language pathologists, therapists and teachers form a close-knit group that collaborates with each other and with you to provide the best diagnosis, treatment and ongoing support for your child.

When you choose ECHO, you're choosing a program that has played a fundamental role in the field of pediatric hearing care. Michael Novak, MD, was the first surgeon in Illinois to perform pediatric cochlear implant surgery. When he founded ECHO in 1987, the program was involved in the initial FDA trials that demonstrated the safety and benefits of cochlear implantation in children. Since then, staff from the two branches of ECHO – the Pediatric Hearing Center and Carle Auditory Oral School – have worked with children and their families to improve communication and quality of life for 25 years.
