Research and Clinical Trials

Neuroscience research at Carle represents the intersection of technology, medicine, science, and care. By providing our patients with the opportunity to participate in translational and clinical studies we hope to engage them in not only their own care but also the future of medicine. Our researchers and providers strive to advance diagnostic capabilities, understand causes and effects, and improve patient quality of life. Our research department supports clinicians and faculty alike in their efforts to provide excellent care and perform extraordinary science.

By participating in research studies, Carle Neuroscience Institute seeks to create a better understanding of the structure and function of neurological systems allowing us to advance clinical care possible and ultimately improve the overall promotion of human health and quality of life.

Carle Neuroscience Institute Research is known for demonstrating improved clinical outcomes for patients through research efforts that focus on the development of predictive analysis, novel diagnostics, and comparative efficacy.

RAndomized Therapy In Status Epilepticus (RAISE)

This study will evaluate the effectiveness and safety of an investigational product, IV ganaxolone, to treat subjects with status epilepticus.

Ultra-high field imaging of glypmphatic function following traumatic brain injury

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a leading cause of death and disability worldwide. In the US alone, there are 2.8 million emergency department visits, hospitalizations, and deaths each year, and more than 5.3 million Americans are currently living with a TBI-related disability. Approximately 90% of these injuries are considered ‘mild’ TBI, or concussion. Research is needed to better understand the impacts of traumatic brain injury and ultimately develop new treatments. This research study seeks volunteers with no history of brain injury to serve as comparisons to those with TBI. Using non-invasive, ultra-high field (7 Tesla) MRI technology will allow researchers to see features of the brain that will help improve traumatic brain injury treatment.

OssDsign® Spine Registry Study ("Propel")

The purpose of this multi-center, prospective, observational registry is to gather information on the clinical outcomes and real-world use of commercially available bone graft substitutes manufactured by OssDsign® AB, in patients who require spine fusion.
