Carle Health welcomes Robert Cavagnol, MD, as Carle Health Bloomington-Normal Service Area President
Carle Health is pleased to announce that Robert Cavagnol, MD, MHA, FACS, has accepted the position of president for Carle Health’s Bloomington-Normal Service Area, succeeding the long-time leadership of Colleen Kannaday, effective Feb. 2, 2026. Dr. Cavagnol brings a wealth of executive leadership experience, clinical expertise and a proven record of advancing quality, safety and operational excellence in complex health systems.

“I’m honored to join Carle Health’s Central Region and partner with our physicians, nurses and teams to advance quality, access and patient experience,” Dr. Cavagnol said. “Together, we’ll strengthen services in Bloomington-Normal, Eureka and neighboring communities and build on Carle Health’s commitment to bringing high-quality and compassionate care closer to home.”

As area president, Dr. Cavagnol will oversee operations at Carle BroMenn Medical Center, Carle Eureka Hospital, and affiliated outpatient centers and specialty clinics serving Bloomington-Normal, Eureka and surrounding communities.

Dr. Cavagnol most recently served as president of Froedtert ThedaCare Health’s North Region in Wisconsin, where he led nine hospitals and 180 care locations, consistently exceeding financial, operational and quality targets. He is a board-certified general surgeon, earning his medical degree from Wayne State University and completing his surgical residency at the University of Cincinnati; he also holds a master’s in healthcare administration. Dr. Cavagnol served as a trauma surgeon and officer in the United States Navy and previously held health system leadership roles at St. Luke’s Health in Idaho and Mercy Health in Missouri.

“Rob brings a rare combination of physician leadership, operational discipline and community focus. His approach aligns with Carle Health’s commitment to providing exceptional care and will help us bring more access to high-quality care as we continuously work to improve patient experience across the entire region,” said Matthew Kolb, Carle Health executive vice president and chief operating officer.

Dr. Cavagnol was selected following a comprehensive national search and multistage interview process involving Carle Health executive leadership, board members and medical staff.

Dr. Cavagnol will succeed Colleen Kannaday, who is retiring in February after leading Carle BroMenn and Carle Eureka for 15 years. Her steady, community focused leadership strengthened regional care and kept services close to home, leaving a legacy of collaboration and trusted patient care across Bloomington-Normal and Eureka.
